Paris 2024 Sprint

Canoe sprint racing at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games concluded on August 10 with the Women’s Canoe Single 200m Final A. Nevin Harrison lined up at the start line hoping to defend her title as the reigning Olympic Champion.

At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in 2021, Nevin established an Olympic record in the new event with a time of 44.93 seconds. Leading up to the Paris 2024 Olympic Women’s Canoe Single 200m Final A, the world record was 44.50 seconds, a time set by Canda’s Laurence Vincent-Lapointe.

In a historic final, all three women who podiumed in the Women’s Canoe Single 200m event at the Paris 2024 Olympics shattered Vincent-Lapointe’s previous record. With all fans on the edge of their seats, Katie Vincent of Canada and Nevin Harrison of the United States ended the race in a photo finish for first and second place. Once the tape was reviewed and the call was made, Katie Vincent won the gold medal and achieved a new World Best time of 44.12 seconds, just one-hundredth (0.01) of a second faster than Nevin Harrison who secured the silver medal after an incredible race. Cuba’s Yarisleidia Cirilo Duboys took home the bronze medal with an impressive time of 44.36 seconds.

The day before, Aaron Small and Jonas Ecker qualified for the Men’s Kayak Double 500m Final A. This is the first time in 2024 years that a USA Men’s Kayak Double qualified for an Olympic A Final. Lining up with the fastest kayakers in the world, Aaron and Jonas secured an 8th place finish with a time of 1 minute and 30.02 seconds at their first Olympic Games — an incredible feat.

Aaron Small and Jonas Ecker both raced individually in the Men’s Kayak Single 1000m event. Both men, raced in the quarterfinals and did not advance to the semifinals. Aaron’s rank in this event from the Paris 2024 Olympics is 25 and Jonas’s rank is 24.
