Competition Council Position Description 

Are you passionate about Paddlesport competition and eager to shape the future of athletic events in the United States? The American Canoe Association (ACA) Competition Committee might be the perfect fit for you. Even if you haven’t participated in a competition discipline at a national or international level, your involvement on a competition committee is highly valued. 

Role and Responsibilities: 

Roles and Responsibilities will vary depending on if your sport is an Olympic or Paralympic, International Canoe Federation, or one of our other additional recognized disciplines. The general responsibilities of Competition Council and Competition Committees no matter what the paddlesport include: 

  • Establishing fair team selection procedures 
  • Defining and aligning US competition rules 
  • Hosting/Supporting local organizing committees in selection events 

 Qualifications: 

  • You must be an ACA Competition member under the discipline you are serving. 
  • Athlete Representative Requirement: To be considered an athlete representative, you must have competed in an Olympic Qualifier, World Cup, or ICF National Championship within the last 10 years. 

Committee Composition: 

The committee will consist of the following positions, two of which must be held by athlete representatives: 

  • Chair: The chair will also serve as the sport representative on the Competition Council. 
  • Vice Chair 
  • Treasurer 
  • At-large Representatives (2): Two positions available for at-large representatives. 

Additionally, the committee can include four non-voting members, who will be elected by the voting members.
