AMC-ACA-L.L. Bean Summer Solstice Paddle 2024

Please join us to celebrate the Summer Solstice and our kick-off of the Standup Paddleboarding season here in RI. We have decided to team up with L.L. Bean once again in offering a special AMC-sponsored “Learn How to SUP” excursion on Saturday 6/22 at 1PM at L.L. Bean’s paddling outpost in Scalloptown Park right on Greenwich Cove in East Greenwich.
This program is being offered for free to existing AMC members who want to finally experience SUP, or those non-members who are willing to join prior to the program. You must be a member to participate, and there are only 10 spots available.

Plan on a review of equipment and basic strokes, and easy going paddling along the western shore of Goddard State Park northward to Long Point. Distance to cover- 2.5 miles round trip. This paddle trip is rated Easy using the AMC difficulty rating system.
Wind is always a key factor in standup paddleboarding, and we are hoping that it will be minimal given our early afternoon departure. Low tide is at 2:08PM- we will be with the incoming tide on our return.
We’ll meet at Scalloptown Park right on Greenwich Cove in East Greenwich, 02818. Plenty of parking at the top of the hill. Boards, paddles, leases, and personal flotation devices (PFDs) will be provided, thanks to the AMC Narragansett Chapter, but you are welcome to bring your own board, paddle, and PFD if you wish (assuming it is in good condition).
Please get there by 12:30PM so that we can get everyone squared away before our 1PM departure. You will wear a PFD on this trip- no exceptions (it’s the law now in RI). We also strongly recommend water shoes/booties, sunscreen, a hat, and of course, plenty of water.
