Level 3: Coastal Kayaking Instructor Certification Exam (ICE only)

This Instructor Certification Exam (ICE) for aspiring Level 3 Coastal Kayaking Instructors is provided by Nate Hanson (ACA Level 5 Instructor, Level 4 Instructor Trainer) of Pinniped Kayak, and hosted by Portland Paddle. Training to become an ACA-Certified Coastal Kayaking Instructor is an excellent way to formalize your own kayaking skills and gain the tools to more effectively share the sport with other paddlers. In this training we will explore a variety of approaches that go beyond simply teaching, to instead actively support and promote learning in our students. This is a busy and interactive course, with exemplar sessions, and many opportunities for candidates to deliver practice sessions, receive feedback from peers and staff, and refine their approach. This IDW utilizes coastal environments in the Casco Bay area, with moderate wind, waves up to 2 feet, small surf, and current up to 2 knots.
Prior to the IDW, all candidates must have completed a Level 3 ICW, with Nate or another Instructor Trainer. Currently certified Level 3 instructors may use this course as an Level 3 Update.
