This ACA Level 4 Swiftwater Rescue Skills Course will teach you to better recognize and avoid common river hazards. You will learn self-rescue techniques and rescue techniques to use with other paddlers in distress. The class emphasizes both personal safety and simple, commonly used rescue skills.
The Swiftwater Rescue classes covers basic and advanced rescue techniques for handling dangerous water situations, such as strainers, rescue vests, entrapments, and pins. To ensure you leave prepared to handle the wild water and stay safe, we utilize a combination of outdoor classroom instruction and scenario-based learning. We take a deep dive into mechanical advantage systems in day two covering simple and complex rigging systems that escalate for practical applications on the river.
We role-play scenarios will provide you an opportunity to practice your skills both individually and within a team/group context. Swiftwater Rescue is designed for people working on or around rivers or running rivers privately, and is a “must have” for anyone wishing to engage in paddle sports activities.
