The ACA Apologizes to American Whitewater and Whitewater Paddling Community for Late Notice and Inability to Provide Liability Insurance for the Gore Canyon Race

The American Canoe Association apologizes to American Whitewater and the members of the whitewater paddling community who were looking forward to competing in the Gore Canyon Race this past weekend. Due to recent restrictions passed down from our insurance carrier, we were unable to provide liability insurance for this event because it was being held on Class V whitewater. Please be assured that the ACA worked very hard to negotiate insurance coverage for the Class V race, but we were not able to find a solution in time.

We acknowledge that the cancellation of this event due to lack of insurance has been a disappointment to all those involved. We pledge to our community that we will work diligently and earnestly with our insurance broker and insurance carrier to explore options for Class V events in the future.

Importantly, please note, this does not affect our ability to provide insurance for most other events, including whitewater events classified as Class IV or lower.

Sincerely,

Beth Spilman
