Clearwater River Day Trip
Clearwater State Recreation Site, Clearwater Rd, Delta Junction, AK, USA
| Day trip on the Clearwater River. Put in at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 3, at the Clearwater Campground, in Delta. The trip goes down the Clearwater River, and then on a slough on the Tanana River is less than a mile, to the outfall of the Clearwater Creek. Depending on the water levels entering the Clearwater Creek may be swift, shallow and rocky. Lining up this section may be the best option. Past the swift portion an upstream paddle to the Clearwater Lake is not difficult but requires effort. Winds may encountered on Clearwater Lake. This is not a difficult trip, but be prepared to avoid any sweepers or log jams on the Tanana, for some difficulty entering Clearwater Creek, the paddle up the creek and winds crossing Clearwater Lake. Of course, the weather may be wonderful, water levels just right, and no problems at all. |
