Level 2: Flatwater Kayak Safety and Rescue Skills Course

This is always a fun course – like kids playing with inflatable rafts in a pool. You will be underwater briefly, climbing from the water into your boat several times, and wet for a good portion of the class. You will have to rescue yourself and others. This will be an American Canoe Association (ACA) course. Although the ACA says there are no prerequisites, I would recommend that you can already perform forward, backward, sweep, and draw strokes. You most certainly may come solo but it’s better if the person you paddle with the most also takes this course. You will need a PFD, whistle, kayak with fore and aft airtight compartments, paddle, clothing suitable for extended swims, and appropriate footwear. You will want to bring a paddle float. Optional are a bilge pump, sling, both short and long tow ropes, skirt, and helmet. Course is $125.00 plus either ACA Member No. or an additional $10 for single-day membership.
