The River Rescue Certification (RRC) course is specifically designed for private boaters, river guides, kayakers, pack rafters and other river users. Basic river skills are a prerequisite so that we can jump right into safety and rescue skills. Emphasis is on identifying hazards, good risk assessment, and on rescue itself; both of self and others. This is the class you want as a river runner to stay safe and know what to do if something goes wrong. The course addresses the river rescue needs of rafters, rowers, kayakers, pack rafters, canoeists, and SUP paddlers.

This course will take place in class II whitewater. The RRC course is 16 hours and is entirely outside with ample water time. Any time not in the water, will be on shore, and active. Students should prepare for outside air and water temperatures appropriately. This is a dynamic and engaging curriculum and will require a full two-day commitment with homework at night.

Students taking this course MUST meet the following general requirements:
– American Canoe Association (ACA) Essential Eligibility Criteria
– Ability to competently navigate class II-III whitewater.

Students completing the course will receive a River Rescue Certification certification from Sierra Rescue International. Attendance doesn’t guarantee certification. Participation and skill demonstration required.

Sierra Rescue International River Rescue Certification is valid for 3 years.
Upon request this can also be an American Canoe Association ACA Level 4 Swiftwater Rescue course.
