If you are not familiar with One Square Mile of Hope, we are small group of very focused and determined individuals. Gathering first, in 2008 then again in 2011 and 2014 to break and retake the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest raft of canoes, kayaks and guide boats, while fund raising for cancer research. These events took place on beautiful Fourth Lake in Inlet NY, in the Adirondack Mountains.This has not just been a friendly competition between Suttons Bay, Cleveland and Pittsburgh, but a very directed effort to bring people together in making a united stand for the prevention, treatment and eradication of cancer. There are no words to convey the power of 3,150 Canoes, Kayaks and Guide Boats gathered and held together by human hands to make a difference. There are also no words to express the gratitude for the money generated from all the events that went directly to each efforts causes.In November, 2013, we learned that our record was broken by a group in Suttons Bay, MI who formed a raft of 2,099 boats to benefit their school system. Congratulations to them, and in response, the next year we gathered 3,150 to regain the title and add to our mission. We are poised to make even that number a distant memory.We are going to resurrect One Square Mile of Hope on September 14, 2024 to expanded the title and further the outreach of cancer awareness. All proceeds from this event will go to Golisano Children’s Hospitals and local EMS. Donations will be tax exempt through Kiwanis Club of Farmington/Victor.We are asking you to join us in this challenge not only to beat our standing Guinness World Record but to further the effort of our cause for cancer awareness. As a participant, you will help us to achieve the following goals while you enjoy an afternoon on the water with like-minded folks:
- Gather together over 3,150 boats on Fourth Lake to strengthen our record
- Raise money for Golisano Children’s Hospital (Rochester & Syracuse)
- Create an inspirational and educational Health and Wellness Fair
- Make a difference to those who may have been touched or will be touched by cancer within their lifetimes.
