The Opportunity

We are currently accepting applications for Chief Operating Officer, who will lead key initiatives to grow our impact and enhance the safety and experience of paddlers of all ages and abilities across the United States. This is a full time position reporting directly to the Executive Director. You will work closely with staff and volunteers to implement programs and measure our progress.

Who We Are

The American Canoe Association (ACA) is 501(c)3 non-profit organization that serves the broader paddling public by providing educational programs, supporting stewardship initiatives that affect paddlers, and offering competition opportunities to athletes of all abilities. Founded in 1880, the ACA also serves as the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee National Governing Body for paddlesports.

What You’ll Do

  • Execute against the Strategic Plan and Key Performance Initiatives
  • Engage and empower our vast and diverse volunteer network
  • Maintain and execute policies and procedures for staff, clubs, members, and volunteers
  • Create and lead data driven marketing programs

What You’ll Bring

  • Passion for paddlesports
  • 5+ years of management experience in a nonprofit organization
  • Proven track record of collaboration, consensus-building, and team leadership
  • Strong understanding of effective Human Resources management policies and
    procedures
  • Experience in deploying technology that improves operations and capability to
    administer Learning Management Systems, Event Registrations Systems, and
    Membership Systems.
  • Strong project management skills and adeptness at managing multiple projects
    simultaneously while meeting deadlines.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in outdoor recreation, sports, public policy
  • Working knowledge of insurance
  • Experience with grant writing, management, and oversight
  • Expertise in process improvement methodologies, driving efficiency across operations.

  • Target salary range: $75,000 to $85,000. Competitive benefits, including health

  • Work location in Fredericksburg, Virginia; minimal travel required.
