The Class II/II+ Whitewater Kayaking Clinic provides paddlers with group instruction from an ACA certified whitewater kayak instructor. This clinic places emphasis on setting and accomplishing goals, overcoming anxiety, building confidence, and improving technical performance in a class II/II+ venue. Participants in this clinic should have some previous whitewater experience. We will have an opportunity to practice navigating downstream, surfing waves, catching eddies, splashing through holes, ferrying across current, as well as rolling and bracing.

This course will take place in class II / II+ whitewater. Sessions are two hours-ish long depending on river conditions and paddling competency. River locations on the James River in Richmond VA are dependent on water level and clinic goals.

Clients MUST meet the following general requirements:
– American Canoe Association (ACA) Essential Eligibility Criteria
– Previous whitewater kayak experience.

Note: Once you have registered for a course, we’ll send you a confirmation email and a course details pack. Course details will include our liability waiver and release form, medical history form, course outline, packing list, meeting times and locations, and instructor contact information.

Packing List:
– River clothing, appropriate layers, closed toe shoes
– Drysuit or wetsuit is recommended for cold water.
– Neoprene gloves and booties recommended for cold water
– Helmet
– PFD / life jacket
– Water bottle and snacks
– Self care items
– Dry clothes
– Folding chair
– Personal paddling equipment (boat, skirt, paddle, etc.)
