Safety

Safety is first and foremost the responsibility of each participant. At a minimum, racers are expected to be knowledgeable and capable of the following:

  • Swimming, treading water
  • Paddling uninterrupted for 2-3 hours
  • Steering
  • Remounting
  • Nutrition and hydration
  • Use of emergency flotation (PFD) per TPWD guidelines – each race participant is responsible for maintaining a PFD on board at all times.

Please remember to bring hydration and nutrition, it will be a hot and humid day on the water.

In case of emergency, remember to stay calm and call for help using the universal distress signal (hands over head). There will be a safety boat on the course during the race.

Please email us at hokulelepaddlingclub@gmail.com to confirm the members of your crew, as well as the division (men, women, mixed). Please note, all members of your crew must register individually.
