Are you passionate about teaching river kayaking? Do you want to be empowered to share your love of this sport with diverse individuals and communities in a safe and effective manner?
Our ACA Instructor Trainer at Ballard Kayak can help you hone your teaching skills and grow our sport! Our ACA Level 3 River Kayaking Instructor Certification Workshop will equip you with the knowledge and skills to serve as a professional river kayak instructor in class I-II+ environments, honing your teaching, technical knowledge, group management, safety and rescue, and paddling skills to inspire aspiring paddlers. We also offer training such as ACA skills courses and assessments to help you prepare for an upcoming certification course.
Fundamentally, participants are expected to have the paddling skills, technical knowledge, rescue ability, teaching ability, group management, and interpersonal skills commensurate with this level of certification prior to presenting themselves for evaluation as Instructor Candidates at an Instructor Certification Course
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to teach across the full curriculum; during the Instructor Certification Workshop this will be assessed through solo and group teaching, from which overall teaching competence will be evaluated.
Candidates are highly encouraged to use the [Skills Assessment and Guide](https://americancanoe.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/ACA-River-Kayak-Skills-Assessment-and-Guide.pdf) document for preparation and clarification on all required skills necessary for successful completion of a certification course. All candidates must be able to perform, role model, teach and troubleshoot all skills in the document to pass the certification.
