Last month, twenty young U.S. paddlers raced in the 2026 Olympic Hopes Regatta, held September 17-20 in Bratislava, Slovakia. Competing in the U15, U16, and U17 categories, the USA Canoe Kayak Team delivered a strong showing and gave a promising glimpse of the sport’s next generation.
Malia Terry-Voisard (U17) led the way, reaching three A finals in three different events. She placed 4th in the C1 200, 5th in the C1 500, and 6th in the C1 5000. Racing across sprint and distance events against a deep international field is a mark of versatility and fitness well beyond her years.
Other standout performances came from Zygmond Farmer (U16), who earned 5th in the C1 5000 A final, and Anna Cashion and Johanna Payne, who placed 8th in the U17 C2 500 A final. Anna also raced the U17 C1 500 B final, finishing 7th, while Ben Watters took 6th in the U17 K1 1000 B final.
Congratulations to all 20 athletes on their hard work and determination. Thank you as well to the coaches, support staff, and families whose dedication made this trip possible. Thank you to Brian Bowker for sharing photos from this event!
